How to Clean Car Air Filter Material

Washing vs. Vacuuming: Some thoughts on cleaning your Air Filter Media. Some people recommend using a cleaning solution. Others by vacuuming. Both have pros and cons. The soap method may get filter cleaners. The catch, however, is that it takes more time ( you need to make sure the filter is completely dry before changing it ) and has a higher risk rating ( putting the filter back wet can damage your engine ). Vacuuming probably won't get you as much contamination, but it's a quick process and you won't do any harm.
Locate and remove your air filter material: If you have your vehicle's manual, check your filter. If not, you can check the internet or ask your mechanic. The next time your car is serviced. Air filter media are usually fairly easy to access and come in a small canister. Most open either with a wing nut or a pair of clips and can be easily removed. The filter usually just sits there and you can simply pull it out.
