How Does Air Filter Material Work?

Because the paper is composed of randomly felted fiber layers, the structure has varying degrees of porosity. Paper is a highly porous material containing up to 70% air. Filter Fabric is used in many applications such as car Air Filter Material, vacuum cleaner air bags, home heating furnace filters, etc. Most Non Woven Filter Fabric is porous and will allow air flow, but the openings are small enough to keep dust / dirt particles in. Filter Cloth is made porous and the porosity is controlled according to the application. Three important characteristics of Filter Cloth Fabric are:

1. What size particles are allowed to pass through? ( Determine filtration efficiency or capacity )
2. How fast will it let the air through? ( determine the air flow rate through the filter )
3. How much resistance will it provide to the air to pass through? ( Air pressure / vacuum required to force or draw air )
